About the Conference
The Evolutionary Computation and Cognitive Science (ECCS) workshop will be
a satellite to the bi-annual Australasian Cognitive Science Conference.
The aim of the ECCS workshop is to bring together a wide range of speakers
from disciplines related to cognitive science, explicitly to look at
evolutionary computation and its applications to traditional areas of
cognitive science. The first part of the workshop will be devoted to
language, its origins, evolution and simulation. The audience is likely to
be a mixture of researchers interested in different aspects of
linguistics, language processing, computer science and psychology as well
as specialists in evolutionary computation techniques.
"Evolution" is used in a broad sense for the workshop - from computational
through biological, and includes issues such as origins of language, and
language change. The main goal is to spark interest in
discussing ideas of evolution as they relate to cogsci, from a range of
perspectives. This is the first time such a group has come together explicitly to
discuss evolutionary computation techniques and cognitive science in Oz.
