Welcome to the Postgraduate Clinical Training Program in the School of Psychology at the University of Queensland. This program offers students the opportunity to train in a variety of postgraduate degree programs leading to qualifications as a clinical psychologist. We offer students options to study in Master's and Professional Doctorate qualifications. Specialised degree options within the Professional Doctorate degrees include clinical neuropsychology, health psychology and clinical geropsychology. We no longer offer the combined clinical coursework PhD programs, but students can apply to enrol in a research PhD after completing the first year of the fee-paying Masters, with permission.
All of our clinical postgraduate training degrees are fully accredited by both the Australian Psychological Society (APS), as well as the Clinical, Clinical Neuropsychology and Health Psychology Colleges of the APS. Graduates of our Professional Doctorate Programs are eligible for immediate full membership in the Clinical College, as well as relevant other colleges according to the degree obtained (for example, you would be eligible for both the Clinical College and the Clinical Neuropsychology College if you completed the Professional Doctorate (Clinical + Clinical Neuropsychology). Graduates of the Professional Doctorate programs are also eligible to apply to the British Psychological Society (BPS) for full membership as a chartered psychologist, as our coursework and placement options map onto the BPS training requirements BPS.
A key strength of the UQ clinical training program is that all of our students are fully trained as clinical psychologists, in addition to training in specialist areas. This affords our graduates the widest possible range of career options and makes them sought-after by employers. This also means that all of our graduates in the Professional Doctorate degrees immediately qualify for the higher Medicare rebate level as clinical psychologists when they begin their practice.
The UQ Clinical Psychology Training program has been in existence for over 25 years. Over time the program has developed strong links with community organizations, public and private sectors hospitals, as well as a strong and vibrant network of independent practitioners. Our students have access to a wide range of exciting clinical training opportunities and experienced supervisors. Our academic staff are actively engaged in clinical practice as well as pursuing a wide variety of strong clinically-focussed research programs.
