Positive Outcomes for Queensland Children in Out of Home Care

Overview of project

The Positive Outcomes for Queensland Children in Out of Home Care is a joint initiative of the University of Queensland, Griffith University, the Department of Child safety, and Foster Care Queensland. The project has two years of funding from the Australian Research Council.

The aim of the project is to identify the range of factors that lead to succesful out of home placements. These are placements that provide a stable home and promote positive developmental outcomes for the child.

The results of the study will help develop more effective procedures for the recruitment, training and support of foster carers. For example, members of he research team are currently evaluating the effectiveness of an intervention for parents designed to help parents who are experincing high levels of stress. Information from the current project will inform an adaptation of this intervention for foster carers.
