 | 8th October Nicolaite-Couronnes 5-0 |
The team made a promising start to the season with a
convincing 5-0 victory. The match started slowly with some scrappy play from
both sides. The Nicolaite dominated possession in the first half but was
unable to capitalise and several chances went begging. The score at half
time was nil all. After a stern talking to from the coach, the Nicolaite
made a much more promising start to the second half. The team was passing
the ball around much better and using the space on the wings. As a result,
the first goal came soon after. From this point on the Nicolaite dominated
possession and had several more chances which were converted into goals. The
other team launched one or two isolated attacks but never really threatened
the Nicolaite goal. Number 9 (Pauline) scored a hat-trick and demonstrated
some nice finishing touches. The sweeper Sandrine converted a nice long
range effort with a 30 yard strike over the goal keeper. Number 10 (Philomène)
scored the 5th goal in the final minute of the match to cap off the 5-0 win.
While lots of work remains to be done, all in all it was a satisfactory and
pleasing start to the season.

 | 15th October Buttes Chaumont SC-Nicolaite
7-1 |
A delayed kick-off due to the late start of a previous game but another beautiful clear sunny day. With a 14 person squad we were ready for the action but anticipated a much more competitive match than the previous week. We were missing Flo, our regular goalkeeper, but had and excellent replacement on hand.
The pace of the game in the first half was much quicker than we were used to and a much fitter, quicker and more technically skilled Buttes Chuamont applied the pressure from the whistle. We withstood the pressure for about 10 minutes but their first goal was inevitable. They then scored again two goals in fairly quick succession to make the score 3-0 within 25 minutes. The team was a little shell-shocked from the onslaught and we had few attacking chances. However, one such chance arose when the ball was won in midfield and a nice pass put through to Pauline who did an excellent job to win the ball from several defenders and then have a shot from the right hand side of the penalty area. A lovely strike and a goal!! The score at half time was 5-1.
The coach changed tactics at half time to a more defensive style in order to limit our
losses . This proved effective and the entire team put on a much improved second half performance. Especially notable were the sweeper (number 5), and the goalkeeper (some very fine saves) but the whole defensive line put
on a brave showing. All the players fought and battled hard and their efforts paid off with Buttes
Chaumont only being able to capitalise twice (with one own goal). A tough match against a much superior opposition, but one where we can learn a lot and improve for the upcoming matches.
Congratulations must go to Buttes Chaumont who displayed a very impressive overall performance. Some top-class control, dribbling, and passing. What let them down was their finishing. They dominated in all areas of the park and we made a commendable effort to stem the tide in the second half.

 | 5th November US Le Pecq
2-Nicolaite 1-6 |
Our third match of this very short season and our second away
game. We traveled into the Paris suburbs, albeit very nice ones (nothing
to be seen of the rioting that has caused a frenzy in the world's media
recently!). The pitch looked great and no sooner had we seen real grass
than we were to discover the all too familiar truth that we were basically playing
on a mud pitch - very reminiscence of the African playing fields. In any
case we put our minds to the task at hand and with Gilles missing we had José
and Ron to boost the team morale and to keep
us on track.
The first half was somewhat of a surprise for all parties concerned!
The Nico were fired up for a tough game and this saw us quick to the ball and
more aggressive than usual. With the addition of several new faces form
previous weeks we were quick to make our mark on the scoreboard with a nice
right foot strike over the keeper from Katie.
This goal was followed in fairly quick succession by impressive goals from Roxane
(who scored a hat-trick in the first half) and Pauline
who displayed her usual consistency and striking instincts to notch up an
extra two to her already impressive total. We continued to dominate throughout
the first half and the score ended an impressive 6-0 at the half -time break,
much to the surprise of all concerned.
Football is a game of halves as they say and never has that been
more true than in this game. A different team I think not but a change
in strategy, a tougher approach by the opposition and several changes to our
team saw a completely different match in the second half. The lack of
stability, speed and strength in our defensive line was exposed and the other
team made several attacks which saw us scrambling and wandering what exactly
had happened ! For the first 20 minutes the ball remained firmly in our
half with us unable to maintain possession or to make a convincing attacking
move. This pressure from the PECQ resulted in a goal to make the score a
still very respectable 6-1. The remainder of the second half saw a shift
in the equilibrium and we were able to mount several attacks, all be them
unsuccessful on the goal scoring front.
While the score line looks convincing it belies some of the underlying
problems with the team. Much more work needs to done in order to achieve
team stability and cohesion, particularly in the defensive arena. A good
step forward in the right direction though....................... allez la
Nico!

 | 19th November Nicolaite-Vitry 3-1 |
On a bitterly cold afternoon we donned our thermals
and gloves and headed to our home
ground for a vital match, kick-off time 15:00. We are
currently in first place on the ladder but we needed 4 points from
Vitry to consolidate our position in the run up to the harder
matches in the coming weeks. It started as a scrappy match and
we were obviously not warm in more sense than one. A lot of
poor control and a lack of shape, particularly in attack, saw us
dominate possession but unable to convert. Several
chances went begging from free-kicks and corners. There was
little in the way of communication on the park and this is one area
we must work on if we are to maintain our number one position.
At half time the score line was a depressing 0-1 and the atmosphere
in the dressing sheds was sombre at best! The coach said he
has not witnessed such a bad half of football from our team and that
we were not playing like the number one team in the league – all
of which was wholly justified in my opinion!
Several changes at half time led to a more
competitive second half but the standard of the football was very
lacking. The opposition played the typical kick and run style
game and were quite aggressive on the ball. Our team did not
adapt well to this style and we struggled continually throughout the
match. The equaliser came quite by chance when Agnes followed
up on a through ball and did a good job to slot it away. Many
appeals for offside by the opposition were dismissed and the goal
stood. A scrappy battle ensued and it was not until about 10
minutes before the end that we had a chance to score a second from a
penalty. A cross from the right into the box was caught
(literally so) by an opposition player and the penalty awarded.
Roxanne took the penalty with a kick down the middle. We were
up 2-1. Another penalty about 5 minutes later (this one more
dubious) saw us take a 3-1 lead. Sandrine took the penalty
with an excellent shot in the left hand side of the goal.

The match ended not long after to much
consternation by the opposition. A sour and cold note to end
on, not unlike the day itself!
 | 21st January Nicolaite-ACBB2 2-1 |
Our first match of 2006. We ended 2005 in first place and we were hoping to maintain our position in the coming weeks. Butte Chaumont had edged past us on the ladder because of our bye the first week back. This week we were facing tough opposition in ACBB2 (Bolougne) who had beaten Butte Chaumont 1-0 (the team who we had lost to 7-1 a few months back). We had reasonable preparation leading up to the match, particularly on the defensive side of things.
In contrast to previous matches the preparations and warm up were more serious and intensive and particularly the psychological ambiance was different and spelt “better prepared”. The match started slowly with neither team pressing home an advantage. ACBB2 were more physically present and a couple of their attacking players were difficult to manage initially. However, both teams warmed to the occasion and the game started to open up. The first goal came from a long range (25 metres) effort by their captain, number 10,
which saw the ball land in the back of the net. Aside from this they had very few chances in attack for the remainder of the half. The second period of the first half saw the Nico gain the upper edge and the
equalizer came from a corner ball. Roxanne put a lovely cross right into the middle of the penalty area where an unmarked
Katie headed it home into the bottom left-hand corner! A decent goal by any standards if I do say so myself! The score remained 1-1 at half-time.
In the second half we continued to attack. ACBB2 had several semi attacks and on a few occasions the goal was threatened. Our second goal came about 20 minutes before the end of game, again from another corner. This time Roxanne needed no assistance,
and her corner got through the defense and the goal keeper to land in the bottom left hand corner. Ironic that both goals
should come from corners and not from the run of play. A well deserved win! Exuberant celebrations with French Champagne ensued in the dressing sheds shortly after (celebrations French style!).
Notable performances include Sterenn who fought and battled harder than most players and her speed and tenacity were a constant threat to the opposition. Also the defensive line did a solid job of keeping the
score line at 0 in the second half. Philo also had a very solid and consistent match in the middle of the park. Congratulations to all players who fought and battled hard, we were well rewarded with a good win over a decent team.
