The conference venue is the Sofitel, located in the heart of subtropical Brisbane (at 249 Turbot Street). For those less familiar with Australia, Brisbane is the capital city of the state of Queensland. The climate in Brisbane during April is very comfortable, with moderate temperatures and generally clear weather which make outdoor activities enjoyable.
The Sofitel website has detailed information about rooms, a hotel tour, as well as detailed maps of the local area.
The room rate offered to delegates is $195.00 twin share per night (breakfast is an extra $25 per person per day, please enquire when booking). It is possible to add an additional single roll-away bed to a twin share room (an additional $50 fee per night applies). To book your accommodation, please contact the hotel directly via email: email@example.com and quote the booking code SAS0407. Alternatively, you can contact the hotel via phone on 1800 303 535 (toll free within Australia) or +61 7 3835 3535 (international callers). If you are arranging payment via your home institution's credit card, please ensure you provide written instructions from your finance officer that clearly authorise use of the institution card for payment of your room.
The conference venue is easily accessible from either the domestic or international airports via train or taxi. The trip takes approximately 20 minutes, and will cost less than $10 for the train, and about $20 to $30 for the taxi. If you are travelling by train, your stop is Central Station (the hotel is located directly above Central Station). If you are travelling from within Brisbane, you can travel by CityCat (the nearest stop is North Quay) or bus (either outside City Hall or the Queen Street Bus Station). There is car parking available at the hotel for $20 per day.
